Wednesday 26 June 2013When Our Master Comes, You Will Be Put In Your PlaceRooz Online Coinciding with Ahmadinejad’s farewell parties and speeches by him and his spokesperson about the hidden twelfth Shia Imam (the Shia Messiah), and the claim that Ahmadinejad will return alongside the Shia Messiah, the head of judiciary Sadegh Larijani announced that Ahmadinejad has been summoned to court on charges filed by private plaintiffs. In his latest remarks, Ahmadinejad said, “Our master will come, and when he comes we will put you in your place so hard that it will be recorded in history.” Speaking to the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting, judiciary chief Sadegh Larijani said that the case against Ahmadinejad involved private plaintiffs, and previous reports that his brother Ali Larijani was the plaintiff were wrong. A few days after the 2013 presidential election, the administration’s media outlet reported that Branch 76 of the Tehran criminal court had issued a summons to Ahmadinejad, naming Majlis speaker Ali Larijani and head of the Majlis Article 90 Committee, Mohammad Ali Pourmokhtar, as plaintiffs. The website also reported that such summons have been sent to Ahmadinejad several times before. The Ahmadinejad summons has been issued 17 days before the election. Larijani added, “Under the Constitution, crimes involving the president’s personal capacity can be filed in court after notification to the Majlis, while crimes relating to his post will be filed with the Supreme Court. We are also unsatisfied with the fact that the Majlis was not notified of this development …. [Although] no one has the right to insult the judge that presides over the case involving the president, we think it would have been more prudent to handle this matter through different channels. In any event, the judge had a different opinion, which is not against the law, and I always defend the independence of the judiciary and judges, which benefits all, but if the judge makes an error the law will correct that.” Larijani was referencing Article 140 of the Islamic Republic’s Constitution, according to which ordinary crimes of the president, his deputies or ministers will be heard in court after notification to Majlis. Meanwhile, Ahmadinejad’s supporters are busy holding farewell and thank you ceremonies for him, many of which have turned out to be controversial. In one statement, the administration’s spokesperson, Gholamhossein Elham, claimed that Ahmadinejad will return alongside the Shia Messiah and continue the government of justice. Elham’s wife, Fatemeh Rajabi, was a hardline supporter of Ahmadinejad and the author of a book about titled, “The Miracle of the Third Millennium.” Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had this to say himself: “Ahmadinejad is a nobody; I swear to God that if I can be a petty servant for the Shia Messiah, that would be my ultimate and highest honor.” Ahmadinejad also referred to his administration as the “most honest in history,” noting, “They insulted us; they smeared us; we have not seen in Iranian history for any group to be subject to so much insult. We have prepared these bodies for everything, even martyrdom, and will not retreat a step from our stance on justice and the rights of he people.” |
