Tuesday 02 July 2013Mir Hossein Mousavi transferred to Tehran Heart Center
Committee of Human Rights Reporters – Mir Hossein Mousavi was again transferred to Tehran Heart Center in Amirabad today Tuesday July 2d. According to CHRR, Mousavi was suffering from extreme chest pains and he was accompanied to the hospital by his wife Zahra Rahnavard and several Security agents. According to obtained news, at the hospital Mousavi underwent an angiography due to a blocked artery. Mir Hossein Mousavi, one of the opposition leaders in Iran has been under house arrest since February 14, 2011 along with his wife Zahra Rahnavard. During this period, Mousavi’s health has severely deteriorated and he has faced issues with his heart with the clogging of his arteries. On August 23, 2010 Mousavi underwent a coronary angioplasty and stenting due to a clogged artery. In the past two years Mr. Mousavi who is 72 year old has faced intense deterioration in his mental and physical state as a result of the harsh circumstances of his house arrest. He suffers from a fluctuating blood pressure and coronary heart disease. Per the medical team, it is imperative that the coronary patient be examined for evaluation every 50 days. However Mir Hossein Mousavi has been prevented from doing so in the past years and “has been transferred to the hospital too late and only in case of an emergency.” According to the medical team, if the examinations would have been conducted in a timely manner, the re-clogging of the arteries could have been prevented. On February 14, 2011, Mir Hossein Mousavi, Mehdi Karroubi and their spouses were placed under house arrest following their calls for street protests in solidarity with the pro-democracy movements in Egypt and Tunisia, in order to prevent them from joining the protests. On February 16, they were completely cut off from the outside world – access to their residence was blocked, their phones and Internet were cut off, and they were barred from visitors including their children. During the past years, international human rights organizations have on numerous occasions demanded transparency in reporting the situation with the health of Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi, asked that they be granted their most basic human rights and called on Iran to end the arbitrary detainment of the opposition leaders. With no outcome to the international outcry, 867 days have gone by with Mir Hossein Mousavi, Zahra Rahnavard, and Mehdi Karroubi under house arrest. |
