The Colombian singer Shakira’s attendance at a Confederations cup match in Brazil has prompted a row - in Iran.
TV footage of the star cheering on her footballing husband Gerard Piqué caused hardliners attacking the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) network for showing her with bare arms and a revealing top.
It called the images “indecent” and “un-Islamic.” However, Shakira’s fans took to the internet to express their delight and posted still images of the star at the match.
“Everyone tune in to IRIB’s channel 3, they’re showing Shakira!,” was one of the tweets.
In Iran, women are not allowed to accompany men to stadiums for national games.
