Sunday 02 March 2014Iran can build any kind of missiles: Defense min
Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan says Iran can build any type of missile. “Today, we are capable of producing different types of missiles, including surface-to-surface, surface-to-air, [and] air-to-surface by the defense industries,” Dehqan said on Saturday. He noted that the range, precision and tactical capabilities of missiles are of high importance to Iran, adding that the country has also managed to produce radar-evading missiles. Iran enjoys state-of-the-art defense technology, which meets all the demands of the Armed Forces in dealing with asymmetric threats, he added. The Iranian official said the Islamic Republic is also capable of overhauling civilian aircraft, adding that it plans to equip all its vessels and submarines with missile systems. The Islamic Republic also plans to increase the export of its military equipment, Dehqan concluded. In recent years, Iran has made major breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing important military equipment and systems. Iran has so far designed and manufactured different indigenous missiles, including Sayyad-2, Khalij-e-Fars (Persian Gulf), Mehrab (Altar), Ra'd (Thunder), Qader (Mighty), Nour (Light) and Zafar (Triumph). Iran says its military might poses no threat to other countries, stating that its defense doctrine is based on deterrence. AR/HGH/SS |
