Friday 07 March 2014A dissident cleric on hunger strike in Evin prison
HRANA News Agency – Mohammad Sadegh (Arash) Honarvar Shojai, the dissident cleric, has been transferred from special clerical ward to solitary confinement in Evin prison. According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Arash Honarvar Shojai who has started his hunger strike since February 26, 2014 is transferred to solitary confinement. One of his close friends said to HRANA’s reporter, “Arash Honarvar Shojai had an acute toxicity in ward 325 and is transferred to ward 500 where Mr. Kazemaini Broujerdi is kept as well.” He continued, “Mr. Honarvar had requested for medical furlough due to his physical and mental issues which was rejected by Tehran’s prosecutor. He started his hunger strike since February 24th in order to achieve his demands. The authority’s first reaction was to threaten him then they cut his phone calls to his family and on March 1st when his family came for visiting him from a long distance (Qom) they did not find the permission for the visit and Mr. Honarvar was transferred to Solitary confinement.” This source added at the end, “Less than two months ago, this innocent prisoner was hospitalized in CCU in Vali-Asr heart hospital due to his heart attack and carried out angiographic operation. Now, considering his epilepsy, heart disease and hunger strike his condition is a matter of concern.” |
