Israelis allocate $3 billion of defense budget for strikes on Iran

The second round of nuclear talks opened in Vienna on Tuesday with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in attendance along with senior diplomats from the six world powers.

It wasn’t surprising to hear Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu openly say on Saturday he has lost faith in the ongoing discussions.

How could President Obama and the State Department thought Israel would have any other choice in the long run? Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon have reportedly ordered the military to prepare for a possible strike on Iran's nuclear facilities.

The Israelis are not big at saber rattling when they threaten to strike.

The Knesset joint committee hearings on Israel Defense Forces plans includes $2.89 billion of the defense budget this year for whatever preparations are necessary for a strike on Iran, according to the Israeli newspaper Haartz.

For months, President Obama has been secretly telling the Israelis that his accord between six world powers and Iran would work out. Now Israel has broken with the agreement and are literally fending for themselves, unable to trust the president’s plan.

Netanyahu in fact is again making implied threats about a possible unilateral Israeli strike.

At the American Israel Public Affairs Committee conference in Washington earlier this month, Netanyahu said, "My friends, I believe that letting Iran enrich uranium would open up the floodgates. That must not happen. And we will make sure it does not happen."

Should the Israelis launch a preemptive air strike on Iran’s nuclear locations, it can be assumed it will engulf the entire region and possibly the world in a new and deadly conflict.
