Whatever deal the U.S. and its international partners think they agreed to with Iran last November, the Middle Eastern nation’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei wants to make one thing clear: Its nuclear research will continue.
“These talks need to continue, but all must know that despite continuation of the talks, activities of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the field of nuclear research and development won’t be halted at all,” Mr. Khamenei told scientists in Tehran on Wednesday, the BBC reported.
In January, Iran began to slow down its uranium enrichment to below 5 percent — the level needed to use the material for military purposes — in exchange for a $7 billion reprieve in economic sanctions. The current deal expires in July.
Negotiators from the U.S., Britain, France, Germany, Russia and China will meet with their Iranian counterparts in May to work out another agreement.
“None of the country’s nuclear achievements can be stopped, and no one has the right to bargain over it,” Iran’s leader added, BBC reported.
