Rafsanjani calls for development of Iran-Saudi ties

TEHRAN, April 21 (KUNA) -- Chairman of Iran's Expediency Council Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani called Monday for the development of relations between Tehran and Riyadh in all domains.
"The development of bilateral relations at all levels will serve interests of the two countries, and encourage other Islamic countries to improve relations among them," Rafsanjani said during a meeting with Saudi Arabia's new Ambassador to Iran Abdulrahamn Al-Shehri.
Rafsanjani was quoted by official media as saying that conflicts would further affect regional security.

He said Iran and Saudi Arabia should coordinate vis-a-vis issues concerning the region and the Islamic world. "The enemies of Islam are pleased to seek Muslims killing each others because of unfounded beliefs." Al-Shehri said Rafsanjani's previous visits to Saudi Arabia contributed to the development of relations, as well as boosted security and stability in the region.

He said that policies of Iranian President Hassan Rohani were positively received by Saudi Arabia and other Islamic countries.

Al-Shehri said Muslims were connected by a common culture and history. (end) mw.bs
