Execution of Gholamreza Khosravi means Iran’s authorities are still ready to execute prisoners of conscience

Persian2English - The execution of Gholamreza Khosravi showed that the Judicial and Intelligence Ministry authorities in Iran are still ready to execute prisoners of conscience. There is currently great concern for [approximately] 33 Sunni prisoners of conscience held in Rajai Shahr, Ghazal Hesar and Sanandaj prisons. Particularly, in the wake of ISIS (Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant)’s recent seizure of an Iraqi city, and the fear of support from the Sunni population for ISIS, the security organizations in Iran may use the execution of these inmates to instigate fear in Sunni-populated areas.

These 33 individuals claim they have not engaged in any violent acts and do not deserve the death penalty. Their only request from authorities is that a fair and public trial be held, so that if they have indeed committed any crime, it becomes apparent.

The death sentences for Hamed Ahmadi, Kamal Molayi, Jamshid Dehghani, Jahangir Dehghani, and Abdolrahman Sangani have been confirmed by the Supreme Court. These prisoners of conscience are in high risk of execution, they may be executed at any moment.
