Saeed Shirzad contacted his family

HRANA News Agency – Saeed Shirzad – a Children’s Rights activist- who was arrested in Tabriz over a month ago has made a phone call to his family.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), 40 days ago on June 2nd, Saeed Shirzad was arrested at Tabriz refinery where he works .

A well informed source who preferred to remain anonymous has told HRANA reporter “during the last week, Saeed Shirzad has made a quick phone call to his family during which he explained that he has not yet charged and he has been under interrogation in Evin Prison”

The mentioned source also added “Although Saeed Shirzad’s family has made several attempts to visit him at Evin Prison, they have not been successful in obtaining a permission. His family has no clear idea about his charges and the reasons for his arrest. In addition, His lawyer has not been given permission to read his case yet.”

On August 21st, 2012, Saeed Shirzad was arrested while he was in city of Ahar – East Azerbaijan Province – helping earthquake-stricken families . He was then released on bail after 19 days. Saeed Shirzad later received a one year suspended sentence for this case from the 26th Branch of Islamic Revolutionary Court.

During the last week, an article was published by the Ministry of Intelligence related websites and several state newspapers about Saeed Shirzad. On this article, there were allegations about Saeed Shirzad, claiming that he is not a Children’s Rights activist and his arrest was based on his political activities which benefited an anti-government group.
