Jailed Iranian journalist seems weak at court

Jailed Iranian journalist Saba Azarpeyk attended the Revolutionary Court on Sunday and Monday, July 20 and 21. Eyewitnesses report that Azarpeyk appeared weak and showed serious weight loss. Azarpeyk has only been allowed to contact her family once since her arrest.

She was arrested in May at her home following a search of her workplace. Her arrest has been criticized by conservative MP Ali Motahari as well as her peers.

Ahmad Zeidabadi, another jailed journalist, was released on temporary leave on Tuesday July 23.

Zeidabadi was arrested in the wave of journalist arrests that followed the 2009 presidential election. He was held in solitary for 141 days.

He is sentenced to six years in jail, exile to Gonabad and a lifetime ban from political activity.
