Hamid Babaie passed out at Evin Prison

HRANA News Agency – Hamid Babaie, a Prisoner of conscience at Evin Prison, has passed out and got revulsion for unknown reasons during the past couple of days.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Hamid Babaie, a Finance PhD student at Liège University in Belgium was arrested at the airport while returning to Iran back in July 2013. He received 10 years sentence (6 years Imprisonment and 4 years Probation sentence) and has been jailed at Evin Prison since then. In a Facebook note, his wife explained about his unconsciousness and his transfer to the prison’s clinic. However, it is not clear if this prisoner has received the necessary treatments for his ailment or not.

Hamid Babaie spent 35 days in solitary confinement and been through tough instigations and sever pressure at the wards 240 and 209 at Evin Prison after his arrest on August 13th, 2013.

December 21st, 2013, he was charged with “Spying and connection with hostile foreign governments”. Hamid was sentenced to 6 years Imprisonment and 4 years Probation in a 10 minute trail run by Judge Salavati at the branch 15 of Islamic Revolutionary Court. His Legal Aid lawyer remained silent throughout the trial and his chosen solicitor was not admitted to the court room.

At the moment, Hamid Babaie is being kept at the quarantine section of Evin Prison. Prisoners at this section have more limitations and have no access to shops or self-catering facilities at this prison.
