‘Brazen’ Iranian drug syndicate busted in Cyberjaya

SHAH ALAM: Selangor Narcotics police had their biggest drug haul so far this year by crippling an Iranian drug syndicate and seizing 10.5kg of methamphetamine worth RM1.2mil.

A Sepang Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department raiding party, led by Insp Syed Nazely Sayed Jaafar noticed an Iranian man carrying around a shopping bag at Cyber Valley Commercial Centre at 1pm on Sunday.

Officers stopped the man for a check and found that he was carrying 2kg of syabu.

“The suspect was carrying around large amounts of drugs out in the open, in just this pink plastic bag,” said Selangor deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Abdul Rahim Jaafar while holding up the bag to reporters. “Even in plastic bags also, normally people wouldn’t think that there would be drugs in there. But we have our ways of finding out.”

He said shortly after being caught in Cyberjaya, the suspect led officers to a condominium in Neo Cyberjaya where they found a syabu packaging den.

Police seized 8.5kg of methamphetamine and another 200ml of the drug in liquid form. Also confiscated were drug packaging tools.

DCP Abdul Rahim said officers later arrested another two Iranian men, believed to be members of the drug syndicate, at a neighbouring condominium complex in Neo Cyber at 2.30pm the same day.

“Investigations reveal that these men have been in and out frequently in Malaysia since 2011. They enter Malaysia on social visit passes.

“The three men, age 24 to 38, are being remanded until Sept 21 and are being investigated under Section 39(B) of the Dangerous Drugs Act,” he said.
