Nuclear negotiations between Iran and six global powers made minimal progress this week, with negotiators warning of "serious" gaps between the two parties in advance of a Nov. 24 deadline for a permanent deal.
"We still have some very, very difficult understandings yet to reach, and everyone has to make difficult decisions and we continue to look to Iran to make some of the ones necessary for getting to a comprehensive agreement," said a senior State Department official, according to Reuters.
Iran is negotiating with the United Nations Security Council — the United States, United Kingdom, China, France, and Russia — as well as Germany.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Friday that the process had been "extremely slow."

Rouhani remained defiant on his two primary demands. He insists that Iran be permitted to enrich uranium, and wants sanctions against his nation lifted.
"Any agreement in which continuation of enrichment in Iran is not considered will not be accepted. Sanctions must be lifted fully," Rouhani tweeted Friday.
"Time is short," Rouhani told reporters.
