HRANA News Agency – Despite severe physical and psychological condition of Asadullah Asadi, Azerbaijani cultural activist, Tehran prosecutor objected his request for Norouz leave. According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Asadullah Asadi Daghdaghan, 64, who is going to begin his fifth year of imprisonment, has requested a leave to get treatment for his sever medical condition and visit his family but his requests faced prosecutor’s and prison officials’ objection. One of his relatives told HRANA’s reporter: “Doctor Asadi, after enduring difficult conditions and different kinds of torture during detention and imprisonment, in addition to his age and physical difficulties, has got psychological and behavioral problems, and his mental instability may lead to a new case.” This source also told HRANA: “By harassment and prison officials’ complaint against him regarding destruction of property and breaking a camera, a new case has been opened against him. After all of these tortures and harassments, instead of us the prison is complaining. ” Doctor Asadi, who had been a medical practitioner in Tabriz, was detained for alleged connection with the warring governments on 12 July 2010 and spent 5 months in solitary confinement of Intelligence office in Tabriz under torture and interrogation. When the pressures have intensified in March 2011, in Evin prison, he attempted suicide but he was rescued by other prisoners. |
