Iran’s official news agency, the Islamic Republic News Agency, said authorities had barred the coach of the national team, Carlos Queiroz, from leaving the country over unpaid taxes. Queiroz, a Portuguese national, was stopped Saturday — a day after he announced his resignation — as the Iranian team was leaving for Europe.
