Saturday 11 April 2015IRAN: Raid at Ward 350
Tehran’s notorious Evin Prison has been the stage for another tragedy. A large group of repressive prison guards at Evin Prison raided the Ward 350 of the prison on Sunday. The time almost coincides with the anniversary of last year’s brutal attack during which political prisoners were severely wounded. Ward 350 currently holds some 40 political prisoners. The raid was carried out under the pretext of conducting an inspection. The number of prison guards involved in the inspection were much higher than the political prisoners. Additionally they were accompanied by prison officials. These raid have been focuses on the prisoners who have been charged with affiliation with the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK). They are beaten and tortures. Gholamreza Khossravi, 49, had spent 12 years of his life in the mullahs’ regime dungeons under severe torture and harassment. He was severely beaten and injured before being transferred to solitary confinement while he was wounded. The situation of these people is dire and deserves attention of human rights groups and lobbyists. The clerical regime executed Gholamreza to avenge the prisoners of Ward 350 at who are resisting in the prisons of the Iranian dictatorship. The sad fact is that more of these executions are likely and there are no laws or judicial process to protect these prisoners. The Sunday raid in Evin was followed by a violent attack in Gohardasht Prison on Monday. This was also focused on a section of the prison where political prisoners are being held, Hall 12 in Section 4 of Gohardasht Prison. They transferred Pastor Saeed Abedini, Mr. Khaled Hardani and Mr. Mostafa Eskandari to solitary confinement and these prisoners were mistreated and harassed. In protest against these repressive measures and the transfer of political prisoners to solitary confinement, Pastor Abedini and Mr. Hardani went on hunger strike. The Iranian regime has intensified repressive measures in prisons to raise fear and intimidation in society. This new wave of repression comes after the clerical regime’s Supreme Leader has been seen retreating backwards in the nuclear talks by agreeing with a ‘framework’. Any public expression of dissent against the regime faces potential crackdowns by law enforcement. |
