Possible link between Malaysian PM corruption, Iranian banker murder

Kuala Lumpur, July 7, IRNA – Malaysian MP Lim Kit Siang has asked for reopening of probe into the 2013 murder of Iranian banker Hossein Ahmad Nejadi for the possibility of a link between the case and the ongoing financial corruption of the country's PM Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Citing recent allegations in the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) that billions of ringgit from the state investor were deposited into the private AmBank account of the prime minister, Malaysia Online quoted him as saying that the police should find out if the unusually large transfer of funds to and from the account had been noticed by the slain banker.

In a statement Lin said in this connection: “I call on the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar to reopen investigations into the murder of Hossein Ahmad Nejadi to ascertain whether the murder had any links with the 1MDB scandal.”

Ahmad Nejadi was assassinated on July 29 two years ago while his wife was seriously injured in the shooting, when they emerged from the Kuan Yin Temple in Lorong Ceylon.

Hossein Ahmad Nejadi, 75, the Iranian banker and founder of Arab-Malaysian IMDB Bank was also the chairman and chief executive of multi-billion dollar corporation.

He had established the Arab-Malaysian Development Bank in 1975, now known as AmBank.

Last September, the High Court found Koong Swee Kwan guilty of murdering Ahmad Nejadi and sentenced the tow truck driver to death; the latter was also given an 18-year jail term for the attempted murder of the banker’s wife, Mei Kuen.
