Arkansas lawmakers criticize Iran nuclear deal

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas’ two Republican U.S. senators are criticizing a nuclear deal between Iran and world powers, with freshman Sen. Tom Cotton calling the agreement a “grievous, dangerous mistake.”

Cotton and Sen. John Boozman criticized the deal announced Tuesday to curb Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for billions of dollars in relief from international sanctions.

Cotton said in a statement that the deal, if approved, would represent a historic defeat for the United States. He said he was confident Congress would kill the deal.

Boozman said the deal gives him little confidence that the U.S. will ensure Iran never becomes a nuclear power. He said he believed the deal would have a difficult time living up to congressional scrutiny.
