Behnam Ebrahimzadeh Transferred to a Hospital Outside the Prison

HRANA News Agency – Behnam Ebrahimzadeh, imprisoned worker, was transferred to hospital following severity and deterioration in his illness and physical condition.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Behnam Ebrahimzadeh was transferred to Imam Khomeini hospital in Tehran, on Thursday 16th July because of a recurrence of arthritis in the neck, and was returned to the prison after getting some treatment. According to the doctors’ order, in the next few days, he will be taken to the hospital for a surgery.

This imprisoned worker from ward 2 in Rajai Shahr prison, known as “Darul Quran”, is held with non-political prisoners, and recently “Najm al-Din Hosseini”, head of the Darul Quran ward, after a verbal dispute and physical attack to Behnam Ebrahimzadeh, ordered him to be transferred to solitary confinement in Rajai Shahr prison.

According to a relative of Behnam Ebrahimzadeh, this is because, the head of Darul-Quran ward in Rajai Shahr prison was upset regarding the news that were published by the media about this ward and he believed that Mr. Ebrahimzadeh has caused it. Najm al-Din Hosseini is now wanted for alleged transfer of drugs into the prison.

Ward 2 in Rajai Shahr prison, known as Darul-Qran, is an especial religious ward, where praying in group and reading Quran is compulsory and prisoners with different crime and sometimes dangerous ones, will be prized with amnesty and vacation and close visit if they read and memorize Quran and do practice.

A person close to this detainee said: “Behnam is suffering from severe arthritis, and although he tries to cope with that pain, but for several times he has gone to the prison’s clinic but it has not been useful, because they do not have the equipment that is needed for his treatment, on the other hand, his request to be transferred to a hospital outside the prison has ever been rejected.”

It is to say that the son of this political prisoner has been affected by blood cancer, and it is more than two months after his last visit with his family. His family do not have regular weekly visits because of the distance of the prison from where they live.

Behnam Ebrahimzadeh, labor and children’s rights activist, was arrested by security forces on 12th June 2010 and by the Revolutionary Court, he was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment and his sentence was reduced on appeal to five years in prison. He is serving his sentence in the fifth year, and after the attacks to ward 350 of Evin prison, known as “Black Thursday” he was retried and sentenced to 9.5 years more imprisonment.
