Seven Sunnis at risk of imminent execution in Iran

Iran Focus

London, 5 Nov - Reports received from inside Iran prisons on Tuesday indicate that Tehran is about to execute seven Sunni prisoners, National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) reported in its website.

These seven are held in Gohardasht (Rajai-Shahr) Prison in the city of Karaj, north-west of Tehran. The death-row prisoners are: Taleb Maleki, Kaveh Waissi, Pouriya Mohammadi, Kaveh Sharifi, Mohammad Yavar Rahimi, Bahman Rahimi and Haidar Rashidi.

Only days before the Persian New Year in March, another six Sunni prisoners were hanged in Gohardasht for their religious beliefs.

Millions in Sunni Muslims in Iran are under suppression and severe discrimination. Iran prevents Sunnis from building mosques and from observing their religious rituals.

Since Hassan Rouhani came to power as the Iran’s President two years ago, more than 2000 people have been executed in Iran.
