Two labor Activists Were Sentenced to 22 Years of Imprisonment in Iran

On 15th October 2016, the lawyer of the two labor activists announced that each of them was sentenced to 11 years of imprisonment.

As Ilna News Agency reports, Mohammad Ali Jedari Foroughi stated that the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Saveh has sentenced Jafar Azimzadeh and Shapour Ehsanirad to 11 years of imprisonment.

He also said that each client was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment for establishing the labor-related organizations and the free union of the Iranian workers. Each labor activist was additionally sentenced to 1 year of imprisonment for making propaganda against the regime as well.

As the lawyer said, the branch 101 of the Criminal Court 2 of Saveh is currently investigating another case for his clients due to charges such as disturbing the public opinions. These sentences have been issued while the Revolutionary Court sentenced Mr. Azimzadeh to 6 years of imprisonment and 2 years of deprivation from any cyberspace and media activities in March 2014.

This labor activist is the chairman of the free union of the Iranian workers and he had called for "retrial" and the "judicial review of the case" and he has gone on hunger strike in May 2016 for the fulfillment of his demands./ NCRI
