Iran Channel, In a notable change in its programming themes, the Voice of America’s Persian-language service has broken from its virtual boycott of pro-regime change protesters and given coverage to the March 8 demonstrations in which Iranians called for the overthrow of the Islamic Republic. The people are clearly shown calling for an overthrow of the government, and not “reform.”
“Reformists don’t represent us,” they say.
The change is worth notice because VOA’s Persian service generally has avoided fair coverage of Iranians who support regime change.
The Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG), the independent bipartisan board that oversees VOA, has a mandate from Vice President Joseph Biden and both parties in Congress to “clean up” VOA’s Persian language service.
This video, following the tepid but nevertheless significant coverage of Amir Abbas Fakhravar’s January Iran Democratic Transition Conference, shows that change is happening slowly but surely.
