GVF — Unconfirmed reports indicate that a conscript to the Iranian police force has died as a result of beatings endured at a military camp near Tehran.
Meysam Roustaei, a draftee at the Gharchak Varamin military camp has reportedly died after being subjected to beatings. On 22 September, Roustaei, who was on leave at the time, was summoned to the camp by his commander. His parents are said to have received news of his death a few days later.
Roustaei’s fellow conscripts told his family that their son had been taken to solitary confinement as a form of punishment. However, at 2pm that same day, a group of people go to the deceased’s house and take his ID card and insurance documents without offering any explanation.
The Roustaei family are reported to have learned of the death on 24 September, however they were told their son had died after committing suicide while still in solitary confinement. A soldier at the camp has told the Roustaei family that Meysam had had a verbal quarrel with his commander.
