Faranak Farid released on bail after 42 days of detention

After enduring 43 days behind bars, Faranak Farid was released on bail of 1 million tomans. Azerbaijani poet, translator and women’s rights activist Faranak Farid was arrested on September 3rd in Tabriz as demonstrations were happening over the dying of Lake Orumiyeh.

According to family, during the arrest Faranak Farid was violently beaten up by security agents, resulting in severe injuries to her ear and elbow.

Faranak Farid is a member of the One Million Signatures Campaign. She is a women’s rights activist in Azerbaijan, writer of several books, translator, and editor of the women’s section of the banned monthly Dilmaj.
