Thursday 17 October 2013Iranian teenagers opt increasingly for cosmetic surgery
Shahrzad News:The number of teenage Iranian girls undertaking cosmetic surgery has reached a record high, with many girls having such operations before they are 18. The increase among men is even greater. During the 4th International Congress on Cosmetic Surgery and Rhinology, Dr. Ebrahim Razmpa told the Mehr news agency: “Over the last few years the proportion of Iranian men choosing to have cosmetic surgery to alter their noses has increased relative to women. In the past only 10 to 20% percent of such operations were carried out on men, but now the figure is over 50%.” While nose operations were the most popular, botox injections were also on the increase, particularly among teenage boys, said Dr. Razmpa. Also attending the congress was Dr. Seyed Alireza Mesbahi, a leading Iranian ear, nose and throat surgeon who works at the US Academy of Surgeons. He said many young Iranian men had undergone cosmetic surgery to give them noses that were the size and shape of a girl’s. The Iranian Rhinology Association’s secretary Dr. Abulhassan Qaisari said that many of those in the 18 to 25 age group were undergoing cosmetic surgery. Operations to remove wrinkles from around the eyes and lift cheekbones were popular with people between 40 and 50. |
