A jailed trade unionist in critical health condition

HRANA News Agency – Shahrokh Zamani has been transferred to the clinic of Rajai Shahr Prison on April 19th and 20th.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Shahrokh Zamani had ended his hunger strike after 39 days after being transferred to the political prisoners’ ward, however the authorities transferred him to the non-political prisoners’ ward after only one day and he began his hunger strike again demanding to be returned to the political prisoners’ ward in Rajai Shahr Prison.

The imprisoned trade unionist was transferred to the clinic on April 19th and 20th because law blood pressure but he rejected to get any serum and returned to the ward.

Shahrokh Zamani had started his hunger strike on March 8th in solidarity with Gonabadi Dervishes. After being exiled to Ghezel Hesar Prison he continued his hunger strike for 39 days demanding to be returned to the political prisoners’ ward in Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj until April 14th when the authorities returned him to Rajai Shahr Prison.

He was transferred to the hall 12 of Rajai Shahr Prison where the political prisoners are kept after spending 24 hours in Quarantine however the authorities transferred him to the hall 8 of ward 3 known as dangerous prisoners’ ward after couple of hours. As a result he began his hunger strike since April 15th once again.

After being on hunger strike for more than 45 days he has lost 23 kilos and is suffering from weak eye sight and low blood pressure.

Shahrokh Zamani the member of provisional board for reopening of House-Painter Workers’ Union and the Follow-up Committee to Set up Free Labor Organizations has been arrested on June 8, 2011 in Tabriz and sentenced to 11 years in prison.
