Obama: Time for Iran to decide

President Barack Obama signaled that the U.S. would not agree to additional extensions of nuclear negotiations with Iran, saying that any deal needs to get done by the current end of March deadline.

Speaking at a White House press conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Obama said two previous extensions of the deadline over the course of 2014 were useful in helping resolve issues and tensions in the negotiations — time, he said, “that has been well spent.”

But the issues are now “sufficiently narrowed and sufficiently clarified that we’re at the point where they need to make a decision,” the president said.

Obama ducked a question about whether Democratic lawmakers should skip a speech by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Congress expressing concerns about the deal, but he said the the Israeli leader’s push for more sanctions instead would “sour the negotiations a month or two before they’re about to be complete.”
