Kaboodvand in Critical Health Condition in Evin Prison

HRANA News Agency – The physical condition of Mohammad Seddigh Kaboodvand, political prisoner in Evin prison, has been reported to be seriously critical.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), the imprisoned founder of Kurdistan’s Human Rights Organization in ward 350 of Evin prison, has gone on semiconscious state following a sharp drop in his blood pressure.

Parinaz Baghban Hassani, Mohammad Seddigh Kaboodvand’s wife recently in an interview with HRANA had told that her husband was deprived of appropriate medical treatments despite his physical problems, painkillers were the only service that he had received from prison clinic, and only with them he could tolerate his pain and disease.

This human rights activist only once has been allowed to go on a short time leave to see his ill son during the past nine years, just after a long hunger strike.

Mohammad Seddigh Kaboodvand was arrested and imprisoned on 1st July, and was tried in the Revolutionary Court in Tehran with charges of acting against national security through founding and managing Kurdistan’s Human Rights organization, and was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment and for propaganda against the Islamic regime through connection and communication with international Human Rights organizations, relationship and direct correspondence with Kofi Annan, UN Secretary General, and communications with the media was sentenced to one year imprisonment, therefor he has been sentenced to a total of eleven years imprisonment. However, the 10 years sentence, which was because of founding human rights organization, was confirmed by branch 56 of appeal Court of Tehran County.

Because of his press activities and on charge of inciting the public through publicizing articles in “Payam e Mardom”, he was sentenced to 1 year imprisonment and 5 years being banned from journalism, and management of the weekly magazine, “Payam e Mardom”, by the Revolutionary Court and Public Court in Sannadaj, and this sentence was reduced to 6 month imprisonment by the Supreme Court, after being confirmed by the Appeal Court of Tehran.

There is another case related to publishing a booklet about the women and violation of their rights in Iran, which has been opened in the Revolutionary Court in West Azerbaijan Province which is still in interrogation.

Considering this case, Mohammad Seddigh Kaboudvand has been sentenced to ten years imprisonment and a case which is pending.

According to Kaboodvand family, he had no history of illness before his detention, but during his 7-month stay in the harsh conditions of the solitary confinement, he has got lung disease, kidney and skin diseases.
